If your NAS performance is powerful enough, installing a virtual Windows is a fun thing to do. Then you can easily operate the virtual Windows through the remote desktop connection function of Windows. This article takes the QNAP TVS-h874 virtual Win11 as an example to record the installation process.

  1. First, go to the QNAP APP Center and find Virtualization Station to install it.

  2. Launch the Virtualization Station virtualization tool and click "Create Virtual Machine" in the upper right corner.

  3. CPU and memory settings can be adjusted according to your configuration.

  4. Set the startup options.

  5. Hard disk 2 can be set later when the space is not enough (similar to the D drive).

  6. Set the network card according to the diagram.

  7. Pay attention to adding two CD drives here, one for mounting Windows Guest Tools and the other for mounting the Win11 disk image file (remember to download it in advance and upload it to the shared Public folder or any other location you can find on the NAS).

  8. Set the graphics card and other settings according to the diagram.

  9. Then start the installation. After starting, press the keyboard quickly. Be patient when this interface appears, it will start the installation automatically.

  10. Click "Load Driver".

  11. Don't select the wrong CD drive.

  12. Select win10 amd64.

  13. Select the third driver.

  14. Start the installation and enter the familiar interface.

  15. After the installation is complete, go to "My Computer", open the CD drive CDROM, and click on "qnap-guest-tools-0.102.1" to install the driver (important).

  16. Remote connection. Search for "Remote" in the lower left corner of the computer, click "Remote Desktop Connection", enter the IP address, and login to the NAS with the username and password as prompted.
